This year's first combined service had one of our retired Reverend Elder Ministers - Talasimanu lead us through a reflective and future focused service. Invited to stand if in roles of leadership and also in roles to support as part of our dedication Sunday. We gave vows to support and lead one another with God's help.
Some really good messages were shared with us in the sermon that was based upon:
Matthew 5:13-16 Salt and Light
13 “You
are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can
it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be
thrown out and trampled underfoot.14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Gems:
- In this time of transition as a parish, let's not lose flavour. Let's keep being the salt of the earth!
- It is not in the presence of a leader that our strength is seen, it is when he is absent. (Make use now of all that we have come to know and learn with TamÄ Setefano and Mama Lealofi)
- Enablers: in the role of leadership - be an 'Enabler'
